Or maybe you want to learn rubber-stamping.  Get a starter kit, borrow some stamps and some pads from someone and LEARN and MAKE next year’s Christmas cards, put them away......ANOTHER PROJECT AHEAD!!!! For the busiest time of year.....aren’t you smart?

Is Aunt Mary’s birthday next month?  Wouldn’t it thrill her to receive something from you, that you made with your own hands?  Pull out something you started YEARS ago for someone else, finish it and take it to her birthday celebration next month with a sense of satisfaction, not defeat, like you did last year, with that little store bought potpourri jar.

Rethink who and why you started all those projects and just reorder who you are doing them for, sort of a new slant on an old theme.

For those of you who work, or are craft challenged, take these months to start doing your spring cleaning early.  Maybe categorize everything in your house or your cupboards, reorganize all your videos, magazines, cassette tapes and cd’s, take a good look at your summer and winter clothing, throw out what you haven’t worn in a long time, make a list of things you do need.   Write TWO letters a week (land mail), send thank you notes, start a daily diary or journal, start a ladies Bible study, or begin attending one.......in fact, sit down and make a list of all the things you wish you had the time to do, pick just ONE thing at a time and do it!

Use January and February (and maybe even March if you live in an area like I do where it is cold, dark and snowy until at least April), to plan outdoor things for the Spring.  I just received my first seed catalog in the mail last week, why not spend some time planning your vegetable or flower garden?  Cut out and stick different pictures on your frig or other places of some ideas you like, bring a little of the spring colors inside!

The women in pioneer times even knitted or did some form of handwork as they sat and visited..........that Proverbs 31 woman was ALWAYS busy doing for her family or others, and I don’t remember reading one thing about a downcast spirit in her......and I KNOW the suicide rate was NOT as high then as it is now.

I am sure if you sat down and thought about it long enough, you could even come up with some really great ideas of your own.  These are not meant to be all encompassing, but sometimes I know I need a kick start when it comes to thinking, especially when I am having an emotional time.

Let me sum up this survival plan for January and February.

  1. Get a Prayer Buddy
  2. Get a Project

Today’s society has taught us that we need to be entertained and not DO anything.  I have discussed this malady in another article, so I will not belabor the subject.  However, I believe the lack of activity, especially activity that involves the brain, is one of the tools Satan is using to defeat even the Christians.  All you need to do is look at the suicide, divorce and runaway rates in the next two months.  Help yourself to a much brighter spring and summer, and enjoy those projects.
