Author's Note: Several years ago, I began a study on the tongue, never knowing I would need it as badly as I did during the time I am about to relate to you in this article. Psalm 17:4b, "....by the word of thy lips have I kept me from the paths of the destroyer". If we read and meditate on God's words, they will be in our mind and in our heart when we need them. I would like to present what I learned to you over the course of the next several weeks. This is the first in a series. Several years ago, I was told something about a Bible belief that I thought was extremely interesting. On the outside, this hypothesis looked incredibly intriguing. I thought about this new idea for a long time, and whenever the subject came up for discussion, I rolled that thought around in my head, ruminating on it, until I was quite fascinated.
This was NOT a Bible truth, simply an interesting way to look at things or a new slant on an old theme, if you will. I never really thought out whether this would be a good thing to share with anyone at any given time, it was simply a provoking thought I had stored in my memory, the RAM of my mind so to speak.
Recently, my older son moved back to this area and began living with us again. This was truly the end result of MUCH prayer......this "man-child" of mine had been forced to leave home a few weeks before his 18th birthday, due to the normal growing pains and choices that we all have to make at some point in our lives. I do not know all of the trials he endured while living in a different state, first with relatives, then on his own, nor do I want to know. I spent MANY hours on my knees, beseeching My Heavenly Father for this child of mine. I prayed for his protection, I prayed for mercy, and like Job, I prayed daily for his life, so that none of it would be displeasing to God. Job 1:5b, "...... It may be that my sons have sinned, and cursed God in their hearts. Thus did Job continually."
Hallelujah, God answers prayers......AMEN??? And all God's people said, "AMEN." After joining our "home church" in another state, and being faithful, he began to feel called of God to God's service. We began discussing options for the future, and it was decided he would move here, in order to save money, pay off some bills, get a decent car to drive and get to Bible college.............ain't God good????
Just a few weeks after arriving, we got into a discussion that involved the aforementioned topic. We were sort of "catching up" on things, and I was enjoying very deeply our Bible times late at night, while my husband, the truck driver, was traveling about the country. That night, I made one of the biggest mistakes I have ever made in my life.
