How many times have we asked that question? I don’t know about you, but every time I am suffering with a migraine headache I, inadvertently, ask that question. As the pain soars all I want to do is go home to be with the Lord and get this misery over with, but I also want an answer to that question that plagues me during this horrendous ordeal I am going through. Do You really care Lord? If You do why do You allow me to suffer so? What have I done to raise Your wrath on me? What can I do to alleviate this pain? On and on the questions flow from my pain racked mind until I feel I can’t take anymore. Eventually the migraine reached it’s full potential; does its’ thing, and then the medication can begin to work. For those of you who suffer from migraines you can fully appreciate all the “things” that take place during a migraine attack.

Recently I went through this process again, but after I got sick to my stomach, and the migraine was then manageable with medication I found I could not sleep. I got my Bible out to read as I sometimes do on these occasions, and the Lord opened up to me His word in such a beautiful way. I just sat there and cried as I read the following verses.

Psalms 31:22&24 “For I said in my haste, I am cut off from before thine eyes: nevertheless thou heardest the voice of my supplications when I cried unto thee. Be of good courage, and he shall strengthen your heart, all ye that hope in the Lord.”

Isaiah 49:13-16 “Sing, O heavens; and be joyful, O earth; and break forth into singing, O mountains: for the Lord hath comforted his people, and will have mercy upon his afflicted. But Zion (Jude) said, The Lord hath forsaken me, and my Lord hath forgotten me. Can a woman forget her sucking child, that she should not have compassion on the son of her womb? Yea, they may forget, yet will I not forget thee. Behold, I have graven thee upon the palms of my hands: thy walls are continually before me.”

Praise God from Whom all blessings flow. He does care! I knew that, but as we suffer greatly, whether physically or emotionally, we forget. We may forget, but praise God He does not. My Lord did not get angry with me for my continual questions, but in His most patient form, He gave me His answer once more. The reason I say once more is because the Lord has answered that question of mine before. Oh it’s not always put forth in the same way so I do not always get the same answer. For example I asked myself on night as I was suffering with a migraine if the Lord knew what a migraine felt like since Hebrews 4:15 says “For we have not an high priest which cannot be touched with the feeling of our infirmities; but was in all points tempted like as we are, yet without sin.”  God reminded me of all the physical and verbal abuse my Lord suffered before He was hung on the cross, and I knew He must have suffered terribly with a migraine. That helped and reassured me that Jesus knew exactly what I was going through, and He was more than aware of what I was suffering.

Unfortunately for the Lord we humans don’t seem satisfied with one answer, especially when we are again in some kind of pain. I was very thankful for all the answers the Lord had given me before, but none seemed to satisfy like the verses He gave me this time. I have written them down to keep ever near me for the next time I am tempted to ask the Lord if He really cares.

I am responsible to do whatever it takes to try to find out why I suffer from migraines, but as well I am also responsible to believe and understand the Lord knows all about it and He cares. My favorite verse is Hebrews 13:5 …”for he hath said, I will never leave thee, nor forsake thee.”  Sometimes, however, I forget that verse also means He will never forget me either.

I am in the process of seeking different reason along with help as to why I suffer from these migraines. The Lord has opened up different avenues for me to try, and I must walk through them. Along with this walk I also must remember I do not walk alone, and neither do you. As these verses proclaim our Lord never leaves us nor forgets us, but most important of all He really does care about us.

I pray these verses bring each one who reads them as much comfort as they have to me. A few years ago I met a Christian musician, who if I’m not mistaken, used to play for one of the great Grand Ole Orpy singers. Upon salvation he changed his music to country gospel. He wrote a song that I desperately needed to hear. It is called simply “I need a huggin’.” The mans’ name is Johnny “Reb” Fulmer, and he presently resides in Chehalis, Wa. I had asked Johnny if I could use his song in my articles, and he said certainly; as they did not belong to him, but to the Lord. I pray these words, just like the verses comfort you as they did me.
