Bath Time With Joey (A LARGE Black
Lab) It was time. There was no doubt about it. The stench of our dog was driving us crazy. It was the time that I was dreading. To try to capture my 105 pound black lab and put him in the bathtub seemed impossible. Times before I would start running the bath water and then call to him. For several minutes the battle was on. Finally, picking him up and wrenching my back, I would put him in the bathtub. That was just the beginning of a long ordeal. Now it was time for the trick. I pretended that I was fixing my hair in the bathroom. I called to him and he came running. As soon as he was in the bathroom I quickly shut the door and started the bath water. He crouched down and tried to fit his huge body under the toilet. I firmly stated that he needed to obey me and get into the bathtub. He finally gave up and climbed in. He did not enjoy the bath, but was clean as a whistle when we were finished. It took a little while after bath time for him to have anything to do with me, but he soon realized that I helped him and he felt better about himself because he was clean. How often does God have to corner us in a room and let us know that we are dirty? We fight and fight insisting that we do not need a spiritual bath. God knows that we stink spiritually and He knows what is best for us. We often resist His cleansing in our life. Once our spiritual bath is over, we realize how dirty we were and that God really knew what we needed. Oh, if we would only bathe ourselves in His Word everyday. He would not have to force His cleansing upon us. |
