Genesis 12

Genesis 12 - The Abrahamic Covenant

"And I will bless them that bless thee, and curse him that curseth thee: and in thee shall all families of the earth be blessed." (Gen 12:3 KJV)

First notice that God will bless "them," but curse "him." The curse man brings on himself is an individual curse, it is not imputed on him from another. When God cursed Cain, all those he came into contact with were not cursed, but the blessings of God are to the multitudes. There is, then, a greater chance to be blessed than a curse! None is cursed except he earn it of his own accord, but the blessings of God are for all men. We choose our own way in this life.

This passage contains the "Abrahamic Covenant," and a further promise for all mankind, that through Abraham, "all the families of the earth" are blessed. That means you and I! The prophecy speaks of Christ, and the blessing He is for everyone.

Then, we see, God blesses those who bless His people, Gods elect are precious to Him! Be sure to love the brethren, for those we oppose may be God's special friends! As we have done unto the "least of these" His brethren, we've done it also unto Christ (Mt 25:40). In Acts 9, when Saul was persecuting the church, Christ asked "Saul, Saul, why persecutest thou ME." Persecuting the church is persecuting Christ, His body. Let us "be (ye) kind one to another, tenderhearted, forgiving one another, even as God, for Christ's sake, hath forgiven you (us)." (Eph. 4:32)
