Hosea 10:2

Double Heartedness

"Their heart is divided; now shall they be found faulty: he shall break down their altars, he shall spoil their images." (Hosea 10:2)

The lord did not find them guilty until they had a divided heart. He puts up with a lot from us too, but He will not tolerate a divided heart. "Can two walk together except they be agreed?" (Amos 3:3). Can man serve God and mammon? What has your heart today friend, I hope it is the Lord only. When we are two-faced, and wishy-washy, God will break down our altars of pride. Though we offer our best, at times, and not all the time, He will reject our offering, and shun our "images" of self reliance and gratification. Yes, "a double minded man is unstable in all his ways." (James 1:8) Don't we like to choose what we will surrender to the Lord, and keep what we won't surrender? When we do the choosing, as in where we will serve Him, or to what extent we will give to Him, we become the master of our destiny, and not Him. When this happens, be sure we are headed for disaster. We cannot put the Lord first until we move other things out of the way. The glory has departed from Samaria (v. 5), and our glory will quickly depart from us when we align ourselves with Judah by doing the same things she has done. Yes, we align ourselves with evil alliances when we become partakers of their sin, and "follow in their footsteps." Paul speaks of this in Rom 6 in particular when he says, "Know ye not, that to whom ye yield yourselves servants to obey, his servants ye are to whom ye obey; whether of sin unto death, or of obedience unto righteousness?" Read that entire chapter, as a matter of fact, it is all good.

The battle starts in the mind. This is why so much is said about the mind of Christ in Paul's writings, it begins in the mind and works its way into the heart. When we are confused in our minds, we will be double minded, and it will lead to a life that is double hearted. We do what we first think about; what we do then reflects on what we are. If we are single minded, with a mind set on Christ and His will, then we are headed in the right direction, and will do well in life. If not though, if something else steals our thinking, it will eventually and ultimately steal our hearts. Such is the plight of man in his hapless state.
