Hosea 12:13

Prophets of God

"And by a prophet the LORD brought Israel out of Egypt, and by a prophet was he preserved." (Hosea12:13)

God has paid tribute to many of His saints. He will exalt those who seek Him, and bless those who serve Him, His prophets have a special place with Him, I am sure. He speaks of Moses, who was said to be spoken to "face to face", "And there arose not a prophet since in Israel like unto Moses, whom the LORD knew face to face" (Deut. 34:10). In another place, He speaks of Jacob, and says that "Even the LORD God of hosts; the LORD is his memorial." (Hosea 12:5). Abraham believed God, and he was called "The friend of God" (James 2:23); And David was a man after God's heart, (Acts 13:22). It is said that John the Baptist was "more than a prophet" and that of all men born to women, there was none greater than he! (Matthew 11:9,11)

There was a need for prophets in the Old Book, but since the written Word was completed, there is no more prophesy! Consider Hebrews 1:1,2: "God, who at sundry times and in divers manners spake in time past unto the fathers by the prophets, Hath in these last days spoken unto us by his Son, whom he hath appointed heir of all things, by whom also he made the worlds;" You see, Jesus replaced the prophets! There is no need for prophets today! Our text verse says that Israel was "preserved" by a prophet, I ask you Who preserves us today? Jesus, and Him only. There are no modern day prophets, like we sometimes hear tell of. Our voice of prophesy is the Word of God, and it is sufficient for us. If we would heed the Word of God, we put ourselves among those that would have also honored the prophets, you see, they are one in the same. Our text verse can rightly be applied to Christ, our Deliverer from the bondage of sin. He is our "Moses." Israel was preserved by a prophet, and so are we, through the same faith. Don't rob The Savior of His right to be a prophet by exalting men to that position today. Again, there are no modern day prophets, and no need for them since we have the "Word of Prophecy" (2 Peter 1:19).
