Malachi 3:10

Spoiled by God

"Bring ye all the tithes into the storehouse, that there may be meat in mine house, and prove me now herewith, saith the LORD of hosts, if I will not open you the windows of heaven, and pour you out a blessing, that there shall not be room enough to receive it." (Malachi 3:10)

I know that this verse has to do predominantly with tithing, but I would like to key on just a part of the verse, that being that He will "open you the windows of heaven, and pour you out a blessing, that there shall not be room enough to receive it." We are spoiled by God. We have been blessed so much, and so abundantly that we have begun to expect things and cry and whine and beg for more. We are as a spoiled brat, that throws a tantrum when he doesn't get his way, and God gives to us anyway! His love and His grace are so abundant that we take advantage of them, and still He blesses. This is hard for some of us to swallow, but God does spoil His children. Of course, it is not His fault that we take the wrong attitude toward His blessings, but the continual and unconditional giving spoils us as humans. We all need to fall on our faces before Him and seek forgiveness for our selfishness, and get right with Him, and still the blessings will flow; they never quit. He said "He shall call upon me, and I will answer him: I will be with him in trouble; I will deliver him, and honour him." (Psa. 91:15) Even in our most wretched state the promise is true, He will answer us; even more, He will be with us; He will deliver us, and, glory be, He will honor us! You can't beat a deal like that! Then, to top it all off, the lord will make sure that our blessings are so abundant, and so fruitful, that we will not be able to receive them all! If that isn't spoiling us, then I don't know what is.

The Lord does not have to bless us to the uttermost. He could fulfill His promise by simply meeting our needs, but He goes far beyond that; he goes the extra mile. The blessings keep coming and coming, and whether we receive them or not, they just keep on coming. Anything above necessity is grace; sure< he has promised to meet the basic needs of every one of us, and because of His promise, He cannot renege on that, but he goes further because he loves us, not because he is bound by promise. When the windows of Heaven open up, His blessings just fall upon us, no matter where we are!   --Marty Dunn
