1. Because it is logical. It is logical to realize that God's love is a total love, and not determined by our will, or actions. If we must work to keep ourselves saved, then we really were not saved by the grace of God, because His grace is sufficient to keep us, as well as save us. Do you really think that we have the power to wretch open God's hand, and jump out into hell? That is not even reasonable. If "no man" can pluck us out of His hand, who can? No, we can't leave on our own unless we entered on our own. Do you see the contradictory thinking here? We seem to think we enter in totally by grace, but lose our position in Him by our works! If works can't save us, they are also powerless to "lose" us. Yes, sin does separate between us and our God, but only in fellowship, and not in salvation. If we could lose our salvation, what would it take to restore us? It would take the same thing it took the first time, a perfect sacrifice, Christ would have to die on the cross again to restore us back to God. Why is it that men think they can destroy that which God has made in the soul? Are we stronger than God? Even in the ark, Noah and his family could not unseal the door that God shut, not until God Himself opened the door did they disembark from the ark, but even that was not a picture of their salvation in the sense that they could walk away from it. Know ye not that our way is chosen by God, and we are more in His power than in our own? The older I get, the more I realize the grace of God in my life; the times that I thought "I" was doing something, such as raising my kids, I was just hanging on by a mere thread. Yes, if you could lose your salvation, you would not have a chance ever again for restoration, because it would be as if you were originally in your sin before the Lord saved you in the first place. Now, we have been "born" into the family of God: Supernaturally born by the blood of Jesus Christ, and now are children of God. We were born, and cannot be unborn, it is ridiculous to even think we can "unbirth" ourselves, or that anyone else can make us "unborn." As an illustration, I am born into my dads family, and nothing can ever change that. I have a certificate to prove that I was born! Even if I were to die, I am still my fathers son; if I commit suicide, (which is what those who oppose eternal security believe we can do spiritually) I am still my fathers son. I may have disgraced the family sometime in my life, but I am still my fathers son. Nothing can ever change the fact that I was born into his family. Some could dis-own me, and "erase" my name from their family records, but I am still their son, it cannot ever change. So it is with the Lord, we are born into his family, and we cannot ever get out. (Why in Heaven's name should we want to?) Whenever you hear the words "born again" let it remind you of this. There are few greater illustrations of spiritual truth than the natural things of this life. There are, in fact, many scriptures that speak of eternal life (Old Testament) and everlasting life (New Testament). To be "eternal" is to have no beginning or end. When we receive eternal life, we receive God's life, which is without beginning, or end. Although we cannot comprehend it, there is no time in Heaven, no past or future, because those terms are relating to time, and though eternity can contain time, time cannot contain eternity. So, to receive eternal life, means to receive life forever, the kind which cannot end, or be lost. This is what we get at salvation, God life, through Jesus Christ. Everlasting life, mostly a New Testament term, can have a starting point, and continue on forever after that, either way speaks of not losing salvation once it is received. We need to realize that in God's foreknowledge we were always saved, even long before the foundations of the world; it just takes us awhile to catch up to it! God did not look into the future, He lives there, as well as the past, and He knows who is saved before they are even born, even as He knew He would send Jesus to redeem the world before there was a world! We limit God when we think of Him in our finite way. You see, our eternal life really did have no beginning because we cannot trace a beginning to God or His foreknowledge. Let's consider Romans 5:8, and the fact that "God commended His love toward us in that while were yet sinners Christ died for us." If we were sinners ("yet sinners") when He came and sought us out, how in the world are we going to be worse than that later, when we are still sinners? What I mean is, we were at our very worst when Christ saved us and lifted us out of the miry clay...how can we get so bad then that He decides to turn His back on us at some later time? No, we can't be any worse than "yet sinners" no matter how far we fall short of His standard. To lose it, we would have to be worse than we were when we obtained it! That would be impossible, we cannot get worse than the worst. We are "hid in Christ" (Colossians 3:3) That which God hides, the devil cannot find. Think for a moment: who is God hiding us from? From each other? No. From the world? Yes, in a sense, but ultimately, we are hidden from Satan, otherwise why bother hiding us? If we are hid in Christ, sin cannot find us! By the way, our sins are cast behind God's back, and He will "remember them no more"; they are cast into the sea, and separated as far as the east is from the west. (Psalm 103:12, etc.) See also Herews 8:12. Yes, our sins are gone, never to return unto us again. With salvation we have received the Holy Spirit, and He will abide with us forever (John 14:16,17). He shall be in us, and dwell with us, and Christ Himself said that He would abide with us forever. Now, if there is ever a time He is not is us, as would be the case if we were to lose our salvation, then Christ would have lied to us. Folks, I don't need to tell you that this is blasphemy! Yes, when we claim that we can lose that which Christ obtained for us, and God imputed unto us, we blaspheme Calvary, and Christ as the sacrificial Lamb. Numbers 23:19 says, "God is not a man, that he should lie; neither the son of man, that he should repent: hath he said, and shall he not do it? or hath he spoken, and shall he not make it good?" Please don't think God to be a liar, and to renege on a promise. If it were possible to lose our salvation, how many sins would it take? What types of sins would be foul enough to condemn us forever? Where do we draw the line? We are all sinners, and it is the height of pride for us to think that, even after we are saved, we are good enough to hang on to our salvation! Who do we think ourselves to be? We assume the Catholic position that there are "mortal sins" and "venial sins" or really bad sins, and then just "ordinary sins" that are expected, and normal for man. Can you see the foolishness of this? How does one know when he lost it or not? Unless we believe that we are totally without sin when we get saved, then we contradict ourselves in our thinking. If we do believe we completely eradicate the sin nature after we are saved, we have a bigger problem than worrying about eternal security! You cannot escape the love of God, (Romams 8:38,39), no matter what you do, or where you go. (See also Psalm 139:7-12) No, we can't get away from His love, and it was His love that prompted our redemption. Nothing shall separate us from the love of God, and nothing ever will. Look at Romans 8:35, and add that to the list of things that cannot separate us from Christ in the aforementioned verses. This covers everything my friend, even our own foolishness. Furthermore, why should we want to separate ourselves from Him? If we are truly saved, we will want to remain in the fold, according to 1 John 2:19. It says there that we would have remained with Him if we are of Him. (The words "no doubt" are in italics, showing that they were supplied by the translators for clarity.) Of course we are going to backslide, but we will get up, and get back in the race, and, as the Prodigal son, the father will gladly receive us back. You can't get away from His love.
