Titus 2 Men And Women

The Resurrection
by Pastor Wayne Harper

The resurrection of Jesus Christ is the most important single event in history! It lifts Jesus Christ higher than any other philosopher, teacher, or spiritual leader. Many men over the years have shared good truths about life and life after death - Many have proclaimed themselves to be prophets and sent from God - Many have had miracles surround their lives and work - Many have died for others. But there is only One who came forth from the grave and was seen by so many witnesses.

There has been a concentrated effort by some to disprove the resurrection and discredit Jesus' teachings and even very existence. A Time Magazine article of April 8th, 1996 gave the following report - A group of 50 liberal scholars called the "Jesus Seminar" have over 10 years gathered to vote regularly on the various aspects of Jesus life and ministry. . . The seminar says Luke's verses related to the Last supper are so laden with christianizing propaganda they are beyond recovery. - The seminar voted down Judas' traitorous kiss, believing it to be either unverifiable or a literary device. Concerning the Resurrection, Jesus rising from the dead was blackballed by the seminar." Friends, this is only the wasted effort on behalf of so called scholars who try to lift themselves away from their own accountability to God. This is the reason for their insatiable desire to discredit the miracles, resurrection and even existence of Jesus Christ? If He existed; If He taught the truth about God; If He accomplished all the miracles that are recorded; If He was resurrected; If He did ascend into heaven; then He is God and we are guilty and accountable.

Today we believe and rejoice in the resurrection of Jesus Christ! We do so because there is verifiable proof that He rose from dead. He is the Risen Lord of glory, the God of Heaven and Earth, the Savior of all men, and the Lord of our lives. We know this because there is much evidence that proves His Resurrection!

The one startling, physical proof is the "empty tomb." Concerning this, Lee Strobel in His book, The Case for Christ, offers what William Lane Craig gave as striking evidence that the enduring symbol of Easter - the vacant tomb of Jesus - was a historical reality. He wrote: The empty grave is reported or implied in extremely early sources - Mark's gospel and the I Corinthians 15 creed - which date so close to the event that could not possibly have been products of legend. The fact that the gospels report that women discovered the empty tomb bolsters the story's authenticity. The site of Jesus' tomb was known to both Christian and Jew alike, so it could have been checked by skeptics. In fact, nobody, not even the roman authorities or Jewish leaders, ever claimed that the tomb still contained Jesus' body. Instead they were forced to invent the absurd story that the disciples, despite having no motive or opportunity, had stolen the body - a theory that not even the most skeptical critic believes today!

The Resurrection is an intricate part of His credentials. When it comes to listening to what He said and taught Jesus' resurrection gives Him the credentials above all else.

For you and me today, this issue is settled and we acknowledge that Jesus Christ is the risen Savior, God, and Lord. By His resurrection we have the sure promise of eternal life. This reality and promise is given in the Eternal Word of God which is the ground of our hope and peace today. "And if Christ is not risen, then our preaching is empty and your faith is also empty. But now is Christ risen from the dead, and become the firstfruits of them that slept. For since by man came death, by man came also the resurrection of the dead. For as in Adam all die, even so in Christ shall all be made alive. But every man in his own order: Christ the firstfruits; afterward they that are Christ's at his coming"(I Corinthians 15:14, 20-23).
