My Bundle Of Love
(What To Do When Your Child Dies)

I never read the story or hear of another lady who loses a child without shedding tears-tears for the child that was but is no longer as we know life, tears for empty arms the mother must now busy, and tears for those who were touched ever so briefly by this tiny life. I believe with all my heart that when a child dies, the love doesn't. The mother must then transfer that love to another child or live a lonely and empty life.

In all three cases of our miscarriages, I have found another child to whom I have transferred the bundle of love the Lord gave to me. There are many children of our friends and relatives whom my husband and I have "decided" to love as our own. However, there are three children for whom we feel the Lord has given us an unusual love. We care for those children as much as is possible. For example, we attend their kindergarten graduations, buy birthday presents for them, give small gifts on all major holidays to them, and help purchase their school supplies and clothing.

While I will readily admit that it doesn't take the place of having my own or hearing a small child call me "Mommy," it does my heart good to know that the Lord is aware that I would be left with a bundle of love and has made a way for that love to be transferred. I also owe a debt of gratitude to the parents who have allowed us to love their children so deeply.
