Titus 2 Men And Women

God Wants To Heal Our Damaged Emotions
by Sharon Merhalski

(Words defined from the Strong’s Concordance)

Isaiah 61

  1. The Spirit of the Lord God is upon me; because the Lord hath anointed (rub with oil, consecrated) me to preach good tidings (to be fresh, cheerful, announce; message, publish, show forth) unto the meek (depressed in mind or circumstance; poor); he hath sent me to bind up (wrap firmly, stop, heal) the brokenhearted (to  bring to the birth; feelings, the will, the intellect, wisdom), to proclaim(a primitive word with the idea of accosting a person; to call out) liberty (from an unused root (meaning to move rapidly); freedom, spontaneity of outflow, and so chear: liberty, pure) to the captives, and the opening of the prison to them that are bound (to yoke to a hitch; to fasten in any sense);

  2. To proclaim (same as verse 1) the acceptable year of the Lord, and the day of vengeance of our God; to comfort all that mourn;

  3. To appoint (to put,; convey, bring, call) unto them that mourn in Zion, to give ( add, apply, be healed, cause, assign, deliver up) unto them beauty (an embellishment; fancy head dress: beauty, bonnet, goodly ornament) for ashes, the oil (perfumed olive oil; figuratively--richness) of joy for mourning, the garment of praise for the spirit of heaviness (feeble, obscure: somewhat dark, darkish); that they might be called trees (strength; a pilaster (a strong support) of righteousness, the planting of the Lord, that he might be glorified.

  4. And they shall build (repair;) the old (concealed, vanishing point, generally time out of mind (past or future) wastes (a draught i.e. by implication a desolation: decayed place, desolate place, laid waste place), they shall raise up (asise, abide, accomplish;be clearer, confirm, (help to) lift up (again), the former (first, in place, time, or rank: ancestor, former, of old time) desolations (to stun (grow numb), i.e. devastate, stupefy--both usually a passive sense), and they shall repair (be new; causitively, to rebuild, renew, repair) the waste (draught, desolation) cities, the desolations (to stun, (grow numb) stupefy) of many generations.

Thought: God cannot repair what He will not allow us to remember--bringing  out of concealment those desolate places (where Tamar remained).  Then God will raise up--clarify, confirm and help to lift up again those former things that we concealed that stunned and made us numb--devastated us.  God will then rebuild, repair those places of devastation and numbness from our pasts.

Luke 4:18  The Spirit of the Lord is upon me, because he hath anointed (smear or rub with oil) me to preach the gospel (to announce good news--especially but not exclusively the gospel) to the poor (beggarly, poor); he hath sent me to heal(to cure, heal, make whole) the brokenhearted (to crush completely; shattered, bruised), to preach (to herald as a public crier) deliverance (freedom, forgiveness, liberty) to the captives (a prisoner of war), and recovering of sight to the blind (physically or mentally blind), to set at liberty (freedom, pardon, deliverance, liberty pardon) them that are bruised (to crush, bruise),

Job 11:13-20

God wrote many things in His blessed Word...the Bible...for people with hurting hearts.  He wants to minister specifically to them/you.  And while there are many more familiar passages of scripture, in this passage God addresses specifically emotional damage...ending by saying, "...because there is hope."

  • Verse 13  "If thou prepare thine heart, and stretch out thine hands toward him;"

  • Prepare--set aright, establish, render sure and proper, make provision.

  • Stretch--to break apart, disperse, lay open, scatter, chop in pieces

Of course first our hearts need to have been prepared by our salvation.

God has some very specific guidelines for understanding Scripture:

  • noonday--a light: dual double light

  • shine forth--to cover with wings; or obscurity;
