Names of God "And they who KNOW Thy name will put their trust in Thee; Several years ago I took an entire summer to teach a ladies Sunday School class the names of God. The response was unexpected and we all came to know God in new and deeper ways. For several weeks I have been praying about sharing this series with you and I believe God has said, "yes" in very definite ways. My prayer is that God will become more awesome and real and new understanding of His character will give us a deeper trust for Jehovah God---YHWH-- than we have ever had. This lesson on the names of God will be taught over a period of several weeks. I invite you to pour yourself a cup of coffee and attend my class regularly. I promise that you will receive a blessing from the Word of God. LESSON I"I AM THAT I AM"
"What we know about God and how we live in the light of it is the difference between:
Is. 50:10........God wants us to "...trust in the name of the LORD, and stay (rely) upon his God." Ps. 124:8........"Our help is in the name of the LORD, who made Heaven and earth." Prov.18:10......"The name of the LORD is a strong tower: the righteous runneth into it, and is safe." Ps. 20:7..........."Some trust in chariots, and some in horses,; but we will remember the name of the LORD our God." Psalms 9:10 "And they that KNOW Thy name will (not may or could) put their trust in Thee..." Ladies, I know from personal experience that the hardest thing for us to learn as children of God is to trust what we cannot see. But trust is what God so desires of us so that He can abundantly take care of us. This is so vital to our life on earth that he allowed adversity to the point of death so that men would learn to trust ONLY in Him. II Corinthians 1:8-9 "For we would not, brethren, have you ignorant of our trouble which came to us in Asia, that we were pressed out of measure, above strength, insomuch that we despaired even of life: But we had the sentence of death in ourselves, that we should not trust in ourselves, but in God which raiseth the dead:" I would like to couple those verses with Proverbs 3:5-8, " Trust in the LORD with all thine heart; and lean not unto thine own understanding; In all thy ways acknowledge him, and he shall direct thy paths. Be not wise in thine own eyes; fear (reverentialy trust) the LORD, and depart from evil. It shall be health to thy navel, and marrow to thy bones." These verses say to me that if we trust God with all of our hearts He will direct our paths and it will be marrow to our bones. Bone marrow is health or illness to the whole body. I have touted these words all of my life, "Trust is earned, respect is owed". For a person to earn our trust we must get to know them-their character- well enough for us to decide if we can trust them. This was Jesus’ prayer before He went to Calvary, "And this is life eternal that they might KNOW Thee, the only true God, and Jesus Christ, whom Thou hast sent." (John 17:3)This was the goal in Paul’s life, "That I may KNOW Him...". God’s character and his names are synonymous. Over the next many weeks we are going to study several names of the Lord that we may KNOW in whom we can trust and where we can run to find the help that we need. God wants us to know Him better that we might "trust in the name of the Lord, and stay (rely) upon God."
