I have touted these words all of my life, "Trust is earned, respect is owed". For a person to earn our trust we must get to know them-their character- well enough for us to decide if we can trust them. This was Jesus’ prayer before He went to Calvary, "And this is life eternal that they might KNOW Thee, the only true God, and Jesus Christ, whom Thou hast sent." (John 17:3)This was the goal in Paul’s life, "That I may KNOW Him...". God’s character and his names are synonymous. Over the next many weeks we are going to study several names of the Lord that we may KNOW in whom we can trust and where we can run to find the help that we need. God wants us to know Him better that we might "trust in the name of the Lord, and stay (rely) upon God."
