Titus 2 Men And Women |

Names of God Several years ago I had the privilege of teaching a ladies Sunday School class each summer. That particular group of ladies was an exceptional treat to teach. Some were teachers, and some were faculty staff wives of a Baptist Bible College. The interaction was always enlightening and the fellowship sweet. I know that God burdened my heart this week to pull this article from my file and I was not sure why. As I began to type this on to my computer I knew that God wanted to remind me of a truth learned well. There are often times many days between a person’s getting ill and that person’s entering Heaven’s gates. Very soon Teddi Neevel and I will be presenting a study for enduring those days of personal illness or the illness of a loved one. We will also offer helps for the caregivers of the ill, for ministering to the grieving, addressing a parent’s broken heart for their ill child, and more. One particular week as I began to prepare a Sunday School lesson on one of the precious names of God, I prayed, read, wrote down verse after verse, and spent blocks of time considering what I had read and what I had experienced in my life. I finally came to the conclusion that I had to omit the lesson from the series. I felt that I just could not stand in front of a group of ladies and teach the name of God..........
I had spent several days seeking the mind of the Lord. Many times I asked God how I could teach this name...His name. I reminded Him often that physicians consider me disabled and that I am constantly aware that He is my only strength and my only health. I remember being in tears when I asked God, "Lord, how can I teach these ladies that Your name Jehovah-rapha, means that You ALWAYS HEAL Your children? As I read and re-read the verses I had written down, one verse of Scripture troubled me more than all of the others, Psalms 103:2,3 "Bless the Lord, O my soul, and forget not all his benefits. Who forgiveth all thine iniquities, who healeth ALL thy diseases." It didn’t take long for a part of me to begin questioning the amount of truth in a statement made to me...of all people...by a former Baptist Pastor-- ours, "A Chrisian who is right with God is not sick." I thought, and sometimes I paced, for I knew without a doubt that God’s Word was true. I also knew that God does heal His children for He had healed me of some specific medical problems and from the effects of a dysfunctional childhood. But I also knew that I am not healthy. When I was six years old, Bulbar Polio removed the word healthy from my first-person vocabulary and several illnesses and surgeries after that kept it omitted. In recent years I have often given God some specific...very specific requests concerning my future new body---the one that He has promised me in His Word when I get to Heaven. ***Is every minute part of us created by God? Psalms 139:13-18 ***Does
God take the specifics He has created in us and use them for good? ***Does
He use the unlovely parts of us? The
less than perfect parts of us? ***Why was I born? Isaiah 43:1,3,4,7 ***Did God make us? Genesis 1:26-27 God---ELOHIM---God as Creator---God created us for His will. However, can God sustain and protect what He has created and see His will for creation fulfilled? EL-ELYON God most High---the Sovereign Ruler of the universe.
He makes known what we seek Him for.
The Sovereignty of God---How important is it to God that we see and understand His Sovereignty---that we know Him as EL-ELYON---God Most High? If God is not sovereign, if He is not in control, if all things are not under His dominion, then He is not the Most High and we are in the hands of "fate", "chance", "Luck", in the hands of man, or in the hands of the Devil. In Daniel 4:25 Nebuchadnezzar looked over his kingdom and gloated in what he had done...what he had wrought...what he had accomplished. God sent him a dream to show him what was going to happen to him for not giving God the glory. In verse 30 God sent him a dream to tell him what his attitude would bring. Nebuchadnezzar went "mad"...I cannot help but wonder how many people lose all perspective on life-permanently or temporarily- because they do not realize God is Sovereign and in control of ALL? When I am upset of anxious or nervous or worried---when I just can’t figure out or understand how I am going to accomplish, get through...when I don’t know how something will work out...I generally worry about everything God is in control of and forget for a moment, a day, a week, or a month, that I cannot change the will of God by stewing over what He is in complete control of as EL-ELYON. Verse 34-37 "...And none can stay His hand, or say unto Him, What doest thou?"
Ladies, God chose us and gave us the promise of His Sovereignty in Romans 8:28-31! God marked it out BEFORE the foundation of the world for us to become like Christ. Remember in Psalms 139 that God knew us in our mother’s womb as well as before the foundation of the world. God KNEW what parents we would have and what events we would go through between the time of our birth and our salvation. We are a planned child of God and that plan is designed to work together for good! Remember Joseph? Jealousy sold him in to slavery in Egypt---then false accusations threw him in prison. He could have gotten bitter against God because he had done what was right. He had been faithful and yet he suffered. Not once did Joseph complain. Joseph knew God Most High---EL-ELYON. He knew God was watching over him and ruling over all....whether or not Joseph understood God’s purpose in it all doesn’t matter......."understanding can wait....obedience can’t!" In Daniel chapter 4 Nebuchadnezzar HAD TO recognize the Sovereignty of God Most High before his reasoning was given back....before he could have a proper perspective on life. EL-ELYON rules over all---and who can question Him? He rules over all and nothing can happen in this universe without His permission. It takes our understanding of this truth before we are able to rejoice---regardless of the circumstances of life---Ephesians 5:20 |
