Fred and Teddi Neevel

I would invite you to study with me some truths about praying, about praying specifically, about praying specifically for our Husbands and ourselves, let’s first review some things about Prayer:  I personally believe that many Christians do not know how to pray, nor do they understand the power we have in prayer.

What is prayer? Talking to God. Ho-hum, prayer is so boring. Excuse me;  talking to Jehovah God, God the Creator, who spoke the universe into existence. The same God that breathed life into man, and man became a living soul and you think it’s boring!

Who can pray? Christians can pray. John 14:1, 10, 11, 12, 17, 20 All of these verses tell us we must believe in Christ. The first prayer that God will hear is a prayer of repentance, accepting Christ as your personal Savior.

Where can you pray? On a mountain, in a temple (church), in a closet, in the desert, in a boat, in the belly of a whale, under a vine, in a garden, on a cross. Pray in the quiet. Noise is probably Satan’s greatest tool to prevent you from praying. Get rid of of the noise!

A quiet home has the added benefit of allowing your children to concentrate, bringing calm to troubled spirits, and encourages conversation where individuals actually listen. After an active day at work or school quiet home is a blessed retreat.

Why should you pray? That God might be glorified. John 14:13, 14

When should you pray? Morning, Noon, Night. Pray without ceasing. I Thess. 5:17 No, I don’t mean you should spend your life on your knees beside your bed. We should always be in an attitude of prayer. As we go about our daily lives, we should be aware of God’s presence. He is always waiting for us to speak his name.

God’s Part in Prayer
Jeremiah 33:3 Call unto me, and I will answer thee, and shew thee great and mighty things, which thou knowest not.

Types of prayer

  1. Repentance ~ Lord save me.
  2. Routine ~ Bedtime, meals, offering, opening, closing
  3. Desperation ~ Selfish
  4. Intercessory ~ Sickness, Salvation, Comfort
  5. Consecration ~ II Chron 6:14 If my people, which are called by my name, shall humble themselves, and pray, and seek my face, and turn from their wicked ways; then will I hear from heaven, and will forgive their sin, and will heal their land.

Closing

  1. Learn to Pray ~ Talk to God personally. Confess your sin. Keep short accounts.
  2. Practice Prayer ~ Don’t allow your prayer to become routine, hitting the ceiling and bouncing back. Lift your hands full, turn them over and bring them back empty. Let God take care of the worries.

Turn off the noise at home this week. Realizing that Psalm 66:18 says If I regard iniquity in my heart, the Lord will not hear me. I would like for you to open your Bible and pray Psalm 139:23 & 24.
