When we began these articles we discussed the dreams and expectations that a woman expects to have filled in marriage, many of them unrealistic. We also learned from Gen. 2:18 that God created woman to complete man. If the completion is what it should be it is lasting. God intends for husband and wife to be "one flesh". So many times we see marriage fall apart because expectations aren’t met, or things don’t go as smoothly as we would like.

Many marriages are doomed from the start because the husband or wife has not removed the word divorce from their vocabulary. Far too many people get married with the attitude that if this doesn’t work out "I can always get a divorce."

I do not mean to say that there are not legitimate reasons for divorce but that most divorces are the result of not believing that when God said "one flesh" He actually meant it.

I don’t believe everything I hear on TV but I did find the Oprah Show to be very interesting a while back. Oprah was discussing the feelings and fears of adult women whose parents had divorced when they were children. The majority of women who were interviewed for the show and by the professional guest speakers had voiced the same problems.

  • The need to always try to make peace between others and to let everyone know they were loved equally.
  • The need to conceal part of their life. To continually be playing a role.
  • Fear of any disagreement. To the point that in their own marriages they pushed their husbands away and set themselves up for failure. Every argument they thought this is the one that will end in divorce.

What a horrible legacy to have given the next generation. And now we are looking at multiple generations that are programmed for divorce plus children from parents who never bother to marry at all.

If you or your husband has been divorced, or if either set of parents have been divorced you have a mountain to climb! Is the mountain too high? No, not if you are committed to following God’s principles.

Matthew 18: 19-20 If two of you shall agree on earth as touching any thing that they shall ask, it shall be done for them of my father which is in heaven. For where two or three are gathered together in my name, there am I in the midst of them.
