Remember to always start to pray with "search me oh, God" Answered prayer comes when we pray in right relationship to God.

Most men are more daring then women are in their financial investments, and are more cavalier in spending for large ticket items. However, they can be very tight-fisted about everyday expenses.

In every home there is one person that assumes or is delegated the responsibility of paying the bills and balancing the checkbook. If the husband is in charge of the budget, then he needs to stay abreast of the changes in cost of living and adjust the budget accordingly.

Usually in today’s society the budgeting is the wife’s job. There is nothing wrong with this but it is important to keep your husband informed. Take the time to accumulate your household bills and expenses for 6 months, then total each category. Make sure that you include greeting cards, gifts, postage and any other miscellaneous expenses. Lipstick and nylons shouldn’t have to come from the grocery money. Make certain that you re-work the budget annually.

It is very important to establish a budget and for both of you to know what that budget is. If you are both Christians, the first principle of money management is tithing. I know there are times that you know there isn’t enough money to go around, but God gets His first and the Lord will supply the rest. I don’t know how this works but God promised that it would work, and it does. Malachi 3:10 Bring ye all the tithes into the storehouse, that there may be meat in mine house, and prove me now herewith, saith the LORD of hosts, if I will not open you the windows of heaven, and pour you out a blessing, that there shall not be room enough to receive it.

Philippians 4:19 But my God shall supply all your need according to his riches in glory by Christ Jesus.

You may have an unsaved husband that won’t let you tithe. I recognize that this is a problem. If you work and have your own income, tithe on your income, even if that means you have to take a sack lunch instead of going at McDonald’s.

There are probably as many ways to keep track of your money as there are people breathing, but to establish financial comfort you need to follow these steps as though your life depended upon them. Tithe, Save, Pay Bills Promptly, and Live within your budget.

Study Proverbs 17:18 and Proverbs 11:15 Co-signing for someone else is not in God’s plan. The only time you can safely co-sign is when you have enough money to pay off the entire note if the other party fails to make their payments. It is very hard to say "No" but saying yes can be a very painful learning experience.

Encourage generosity. Several years ago I learned the blessing of the flying five. Sometimes, God will bring someone across your path that needs your help. They may need a bag of groceries or a five-dollar bill. Whatever God places on your heart is what you need to give. You don’t need to worry about repayment; God keeps much better records then we do. Psalm 41:1-3 Blessed is he that considereth the poor: the Lord will deliver him in time of trouble. The Lord will preserve him, and keep him alive; and he shall be blessed upon the earth: and thou will not deliver him unto the will of his enemies.
