Praying About His Purpose and His Choices

Let’s ask ourselves a few questions. We know that God made man, but why did He make man?

Did God need someone to work the plow? Gen. 2:5 "There was not a man to till the ground."

Did He need someone to name the animals? Gen. 2:19 "The Lord God formed every beast of the field and every fowl of the air; and brought them to Adam to see what he would call them."

Did He just need a gardener? Gen. 2:15 " The Lord God took the man and put him into the Garden of Eden to dress it and keep it."

Man did all of these things but God didn’t need for Adam to do them. God created man in His own image. Gen 1:27 and in verse 28 told them to be fruitful. God spent time in the Garden with Adam and Eve. They fellowshiped together and God wanted there to be more people for Him to fellowship with.

So, the first purpose of man needs to be his relationship with God. That is why God created Adam in the first place. What is your husbands’ relationship with God?

God has created each of us with distinct features, personalities, character traits, spiritual gifts, and abilities. Our features are pretty much beyond our control and to an extent our personalities are set. That does not mean that a painfully shy person can’t preach a message or lead a soul to Christ, but it is much more difficult for them.

Character traits are learned. Truthfulness, trustworthiness, faithfulness, courage, etc. As long as we draw breath we need to continue to work on these traits.

Rom. 12:5-8 Spiritual gifts are God given for His honor and purpose. God has given some of us a servants heart, some the gift of prophecy, some a generous spirit. One spiritual gift is not better then another but all are necessary in the Church.

Then we have abilities. No two of us have the exact same abilities. Wouldn’t life be dull if each of us were exactly like the other? Do you use your abilities? Do you use them to serve the Lord? Pray that God would show you how you might serve Him more effectively.

Now, let’s each turn these thoughts toward our own husbands and pray about each of them specifically.

  1. Does your husband recognize that he is created in God’s image for the purpose of fellowship with God?
  2. Is your husband diligent about establishing and maintaining good character traits?
  3. Does your husband know what his spiritual gift is?
  4. Does your husband allow God to use him and his spiritual gift?
  5. Are your husband’s abilities being put to good use?
