Titus 2 or Jude 1:22 Project Jude 1:22 "And of some have compassion, making a difference:" A number of people have emailed to ask "How do I start a Titus 2 group at my church?" or "How do I become a Titus 2 woman?" As Sharon and I have prayed and brainstormed for several months, the Lord brought to my rememberance some very special people who reached out to me because the Holy Spirit led them. I am in the begining stages of a Bible study for our ladies Sunday School class on the book of Titus and we can become Titus 2 Christians. This project is one that our Sunday School class will do as an on-going tool of compassion. We have on occasion been faced with a family health crisis...you know those trips that begin with a doctor’s appointment and end up going directly to the hospital. There have also been athletic events, trips to the play ground, and car trips that left us suddenly in the hospital. We weren’t sickly or accident-prone but we had 7 very active boys plus our extended families. When these un-scheduled hospital trips occurred we were always without a few things. Usually, when someone is in the hospital, visitors arrive with cards, gifts, balloons and flowers for the sick person. That is a wonderful thing to do, but what if someone arrived with a compassion gift for the well family member who is sitting at the bedside or in the waiting room? My heart has been touched by such a gift. The seed of that gift has grown into this project. I chose to re-cycle a basket for the man’s gift and to use a gift bag for the woman’s. In the future we may cover shoeboxes with plain white paper and add a few scripture verse stickers. Remember the packages do not have to be exactly the same. If a Sunday School class, Bible study group or ladies missionary circle desides to take on this project it is very inexpensive. Items can be purchased in quantity and everyone can watch for special sales. Both the man’s gift basket and the lady’s gift bag contains the following personal care items in travel size containers: hand sanitizer, shampoo, hair gel or hair spray, baby powder, deodorant, hand lotion, toothpaste, and mouth wash. It also includes a toothbrush and toothbrush cover, chap stick, a pair of sock type slippers, breath mints, a small container of chips, granola bars, peanutbutter crackers, 2 juice boxes, and a snack size plastic bag with a few cough drops, some hard candies, and $2.00 in quarters for vending machines. To help pass the time I also included some Bible promise cards, a small size legal pad, and a search and find puzzle book. The man’s gift contains a disposable razor and the lady’s a travel size body wash. Total cost about $14.00 each. My ladies Sunday School class will assemble the gifts, include a card stating that the gift comes with our prayers during this time of trouble. We will label the items as being male or female and place them in the church office. Whenever one of the Pastor’s recieves an emergency phone call, he can grab a gift on his way out the door. 1Peter 3:8 -- 9 "Finally, be ye all of one mind, having compassion one of another, love as brethren, be pitiful, be courteous: Not rendering evil for evil, or railing for railing: but contrariwise blessing; knowing that ye are thereunto called, that ye should inherit a blessing." |
