In the days of Leave it to Beaver, who did children look up to for role
models? Perhaps they admired Jackie Robinson, Wilt Chamberlain, Johnny Unites,
Arnold Palmer, or the child’s father? Now who do they have as paradigms, pray
tell?
Well, many kids have illustrious rock stars as beau ideals. Who is there to
look up to in that industry? Janet Jackson, one problem, she can’t seem to keep
her clothing on. (Those blasted wardrobe malfunctions are a hassle-yeah… right)
In sports, um, Kobe Bryant… I shan’t even talk about it. Their fathers, (in many
cases) oh, you mean that man in the house who sits on the couch devouring a
6-pack of Coors Lights. Good heavens, I hope that welfare check arrives on time
this month!
All you have to do is turn on the television, open the newspaper, or go to
Wal-Mart to see America’s youth being pounded with absurdities. Everything from
immoral relationships, perfect acceptance of gay marriage, on demand abortion
being prevalent, and Christianity being the most preposterous thing since a
fuchsia Wal-Mart. You turn on the tube and see Stephen Jay Gould on Crossfire
laying out his brilliant circular-reasoning arguments why only inferior idiots
believe the creation theory. Or History’s Mysteries verbalizing about the
errors in the Bible. You go to the theater and watch the Hollywood fruitcakes’
idea of entertainment, including Michael Moore’s talk-u-mentary. You go to
Wal-Mart and can’t help but notice on the bestseller’s rack the DaVinci Code, a
novel that from the first page declares it is true.
Why are kid’s these days so liberal, they ask? Why are we surprised is the more
appropriate question. How has our culture in this great nation gotten to where
it is? We take prayer and all recognition of what is Godly and righteous out of
a juvenile’s eight to three portion of their lives, what do you expect? When
left wing activist judges declare practically all public recognition of our
Lord and Savior unconstitutional, what do you expect? When Carter, Mondale,
Dukkakis, Clinton, Gore, and Kerry, six candidates for the most powerful office
in the world proclaim liberal progression is the way of the future, what do you
expect? When politics is synonymous with the ACLU, abortion, promotion of the
homosexual lifestyle, and Secular Humanism, what do you expect?
We live in a day where the previous generation was raised by the proposition
that discipline by spanking was considered dangerous to a child’s mental
health. Thus, appropriate and identifiable consequences of misbehavior are
often not administered. As King Solomon said, “Foolishness is bound in the
heart of a child, but the rod of correction shall drive it far from him.”
(Proverbs 22:15) You cannot rule a house with an iron fist and Jell-O fingers.
Adequate disciplinary actions are simply not known by modern households.
So what can be done? Pray, pray for our nation. Pray for our adolescents. Pray
for our government. Pray for our churches. Pray for America! " Remember
them which have the rule over you, who have spoken unto you the word of God:
whose faith follow, considering the end of their conversation. Jesus Christ the
same yesterday, and to day, and for ever. Be not carried about with divers and
strange doctrines. For a good thing that the heart be established with grace;
not with meats, which have not profited them that have been occupied
therein." (Hebrews 13:7&8)
