Computer 101How To Uninstall a Program?
Cut and Paste--Double space to Single Space?
A Virus Hoax? Anytime an e-mail states something like "IF YOU FIND THE VIRUS
YOU MUST Those Email Forwards: Something I just learned......well--it happens once in awhile Here are the instructions to find and open a zipped (or compressed) file: 1) You will need an uncompression (unzipping) program such as PKUNZIP or WinZIP (which uses PKUNZIP). I use WinZip. There are other programs out on the Internet that provide similar functionality. These are the ones I am familiar with using. You can download an evaluation copy of winzip at http://www.winzip.com. I believe the cost of winzip starts at $30. You may also go to a store which sells software such as Best Buy or Staples to pick up a copy. (The United States Government does place export restrictions on some types of software, so non-USA territories, may not be able to get this type of software - I assume you are in the USA.) 2) Normally, when you download a program off the Internet you are prompted where to save the file, but just incase you are not prompted here is how you would locate the file on your PC. These instructions are for Windows 98 and would be similar to other versions of Windows...I am not familiar with Macintosh computers, so I can't assist you with that. Click on your START menu button. Click on FIND and then FILES OR FOLDERS. This will open a new window. In the "Named" field type in: *.zip Most zipped files end with the extension Z-I-P. You should see a field called "Look In" with a black arrow. Click on the black arrow, this will open a list of places to look on your PC. If you see something called "Local Hard Drives" click on that. This option will only be available if you have more than one hard drive on your PC. Otherwise, select "C" for your C-Drive. Finally, Click on the "Find Now" button. This will search for files ending with ZIP on your harddrive. At this point, you will need to either now the name of the file or an approximate time you downloaded the file to your PC. You can search through the list of files for the name of the PC or you can scroll the window to the right and view the last modified dates. If you click on the heading "name" (above the file names) you can sort the files by name (either A to Z, or Z to A). Clicking the heading more than once, will cause the sort method to change between the two (A to Z will change to Z to A). You can also click on the "Modified" head and sort in a similar fashion. 3) Once you see the file you are looking for, you can just double click on the file and this will open the file in WinZip. The zip file will have one or more files inside it. You can select the files you want and then click Extract to copy a file to your harddrive. Depending on the type of file within the ZIP file, you may also double click on the file to open it and not need to extract it first. You then can save the file to your harddrive. I hope this helps. - Felix Here is a tip from one of our visitors (Maureen G.) I teach and here are a few things my students are glad I taught
