For Family Devotions

An Introduction To The Family Devotional

It is my opinion that teaching character to children doesn't necessarily guarantee that they will receive it and walk accordingly. However, a good Bible base will see them through the rough times, and the trials of life that will come their way. We can teach many things and many great Truths, but to teach them Jesus is the focus of these lessons. I have, as in all my devotions, sought to do just that, keep the focus on the Lord, and not merely on teaching scripture by rote. Teaching children how to behave does not make them obedient children, and good kids. However, teaching them to have their own relationship, a personal relationship with Christ, I believe, will help them to be what the Lord would like them to be. As I have sought to keep Jesus in the forefront of each devotion, I know I have strayed off that goal at times, but, for the most part, my goal is to teach them Jesus, as Philip did with the Ethiopian eunuch in Acts 8:35, where he "preached to him Jesus."

I thank the Lord for this great opportunity, and ask that you bear with me in my endeavor to help the families of America. Please overlook the silly phrases, and the bad grammar, and focus on the Truth of Christ in the Scriptures. He permeates nearly every chapter of every Book, and weaves Himself in and out of the pages as we read through them. As you read these devotions, please read the references, and the entire chapter of the text verse to get a good understanding of the background and thought being conveyed by the inspired writers of Holy Writ. Thank you all for inviting me into your home and trusting me to help you to have a better relationship with our Lord and Savior. I pray that you will not be disappointed in finding something to hang on to as you go through your day, and that being, of course, Jesus.

I do not seek to teach a lot of facts, but a Person, and of His special goodness and grace, and in so doing, I trust that you will all be better off, equipped with the armor of God. I know I have enjoyed these lessons, and hope that others receive at least a potion of the blessings that I found in writing them. God is so good.
