I worked in Christian Schools for over fifteen years and I have been troubled for a long, long time about the labels 'professionals' put on children. I have been just as troubled for as long about the 'diagnosis' of ADD/ADHD and the increasing number of children being put on mind altering drugs. I hope the following links will help many parents gain wisdom and discernment about the epidemic proportions of the problems being created by school teachers, medical professionals, and society at large. I highly recommend the following link to you where this quote comes from. "Nothing measures the quality of a society better than how it treats its children. In America today, children as a group are in trouble, and psychiatry is moving in to take over..... In blaming the child-victim, psychiatry takes the pressure off the parents, the family, and the schools. By diagnosing, drugging and hospitalizing children, psychiatry enforces the worst attitudes toward children in our culture and exonerates those adult institutions that need reform." You may read the rest of this short and informative article at: http://home.alltel.net/biblepsy/add.htm I received the following E-mail of invitation to read the following E-book. I asked Danette Tucker and Lori Knutsen to review it and their recommendations for this book are under the following information.
Review by Danette Tucker: This e-book offers an in-depth analysis of the issue of children who have been diagnosed with ADD/ADHD and other learning and emotional "disabilities." It covers the issue of ADD and learning disabilities from all angles -- the errors of the "psychology" view, Biblical parenting, education, and the necessity for salvation (as opposed to religion). It is heavily researched, and as result, it is not a quick read. However, it is well worth the time to read it, in my opinion. The issue is complex, actually made more complex by our society's view of it, and is one that doesn't need light-weight answers. I think the depth of the research information is justified and helpful. Because it is a lengthy work, I would recommend that anyone who wants to read it take it in bites. The first 15 chapters alone provide an excellent evaluation of the psychological v. Biblical views. I think the book is very sound and has SO MUCH very good material that would be difficult, if not impossible, to find in one place elsewhere. Review by Lori Knutsen: This is very thorough and well researched information on ADHD and other childhood challenges written for parents, doctors, as well as teachers. We live in a day that labels are given so quickly to children and over the counter mind altering drugs are so readily prescribed. Parents need to take the responsibility to become informed and then make choices based on what's best for their child.
