From The Crossley's August 2002 Report
EVANGELISM TEAM
After three months of evangelistic meetings about 35 people have been saved
in Harmon. Brother Sanders has led the Brasov mission to establish an
ongoing mission project in Harmon to disciple the new converts. Brother
Petru will be the missionary in charge. I hope to participate with Petru
in this next step of church work.
Brother Chandler has joined the evangelism team and with a video projector
has made it possible to show the Jesus film at multiple locations. The
film is always followed by preaching. They first showed the film at Homorod
and had a turn out of 250. There were four saved. The movie was
shown the next night in Harmon where 1 more was saved. The movie should
be a tremendous asset to the evangelistic works around Brasov.
The team hopes to begin holding evangelistic meetings in the Bartolomeo section
of Brasov soon. All the team members agree that there is great evangelistic
potential in this area. I’m sorry at the loss of Sergiu Sidor, a very
dedicated member of the team who moved out of the area. Sergiu translated
for me when I preached and has a tenacious commitment to evangelism. I
will miss him.
I’m glad to be able to report that no one will be receiving pay for the evangelistic
work after all. All the Romanians involved have served joyfully and from
the heart and what’s more I’ve received some offerings from Romanians who want
to personally support the expenses of this ministry.
BIBLE COLLEGE
Bible College has begun again. I’m disappointed to have to tell you I
was informed that my participation will not be necessary this year. I
have been outlining courses through the summer and was anxious to teach.
I hope to use the lessons in other areas as the Lord grants opportunity.
CHILDREN’S HOME
After less then three months we will be moving again. The landlady who
lives next door has made it clear we are not welcome and has been saying some
very damaging things to the children (especially Nico and Costi, our two gypsy
children).
The bad news:
After several months of dedicated prayer about a specific building in Velcele
it appears that this is not the location God had in mind after all.
THE GOOD NEWS:
The pattern of past experience has been when God doesn’t give what we prayed
for it’s because He had something better in mind. It appears that such
is the case regarding a permanent home for the children. As you know,
we’ve been praying that a Romanian would donate land and the first home.
While buying cherries at the piatza (out door market) one day, a Romanian man
struck up a conversation with us. When we heard what we were doing he
casually said, "I have some land I purchased for a children’s home. If
you like it you can have it for free". To make a very long story, short.
The Lord has done just what we asked.
This past Tuesday the land was signed over to the Association. Though
the man, Valentino lives much of the year in America, he is a native Romanian,
still holds property and spends considerable time in Romania and he still has
Romanian citizenship. A Romanian has donated land for
the Children’s Home. When asked why he gave us the land, his answer was
simple and penetrating. "To him that knows to do good and doesn’t do it,
to him it is sin". Would God that we all could live by such a conviction.
Though we still need the house I can honestly say the location is far superior
to the one we were praying for. THAT’S MY KING!!!
Please help us pray down the house now. Also, we desperately need a full
time helper with the Children’s Home. With 10 children and the Romanian
bureaucracy (which keep us busy constantly dealing with school registrations,
dental and medical errands and everything else you can imagine and plenty you
can’t imagine), we’re trying to find someone to handle all that for us so we
can get all our work done. We’re having a hard time finding anyone for
this job. We also need someone to stay with the kids in Jan and Feb. while
we are in the States for Colter’s wedding and hopefully some deputation.
Meanwhile, we are considering taking in two more kids. With all that’s
going on we know this could be cause for added stress, but when the opportunity
to receive more kids presents itself we don’t want to turn it down.
We want to personally thank all of you who not only contribute to our daily
needs and the expenses of running a Children’s Home and the other ministries
we are doing, but also say thank you for the special offerings received for
the Children’s Home Building Project and the Van Fund.
With grace unearned,
Brian Crossley
