Articles Of Hope For - Spiritual Growth
Written by Marty Dunn

Romans 8:1  “There is therefore now no condemnation to them which are in Christ Jesus, who walk not after the flesh, but after the Spirit.”

No condemnation at all for those who have walked after the Spirit, and not after the flesh. Where does the Spirit lead us to? To Jesus. When we "walk after the Spirit," (follow after) we find Jesus. This does not say it is a continuous walk that cannot be broken by our foolishness, and therefore condemnation may set in at times. There is no condemnation, none at all... Though our walk may not be consistent, God is, and once we walk in His Spirit, and are in fellowship with Him, there is no more condemnation for us...ever. There is no condemnation because we follow the Spirit to Jesus, the eternal One, and His gifts (salvation) are also eternal (Rom. 11:29). Yes, the gifts and calling are without repentance, and we have God’s Word for that. All His works are eternal works, because He is an eternal being. His salvation, given freely to us as a gift, (Rom. 6:23), is also eternal, and whether we walk always in the Spirit (fellowship with the Lord) or not, we are still under no condemnation. Condemnation is a destroyer, and God is a builder.

To "walk after" someone means that he goes before you, and you follow. If we follow the Spirit, where do you think He will lead us, if not to Jesus?

The Holy Spirit points us to Jesus, and Jesus points us to the Father, who provides us salvation through His Son, thus, all three are one.

Condemnation belongs to the unsaved--the unjust. He is condemned because of unbelief, and therefore condemnation is in every part of his life; he literally lives in it; it dominates everything he does. This unbeliever shows an animosity toward the things of God, and openly and flagrantly opposes that which is right. He is not necessarily under the spell of deceit, but is willingly ignorant of the Lord and His mercies, and will not be convinced otherwise. He is antagonistic against God, and the mention of godly things, and is caught up in his stubbornness and pride to the extent that he tries to fight against the Lord, and His children; he calls himself an atheist. Some hide this attitude deep in their hearts and only allow it to guide their personal affairs, while others seek to advertise their folly and pull society down with them into perdition, but all of them walk, and live, in condemnation, and unless the grace of God intervenes, and they accept it for what it is, they also die in condemnation, and perish in the eternal fires of hell. Woe to that wretched soul whose end is condemnation.
